How to memorize formulas?

Postby magalysantos_1F » Tue Oct 20, 2020 9:11 pm

Hello! I was wondering if anyone had any tips for knowing which formulas to use for certain problems to prep for the midterm? For example, if it asks for maximum kinetic energy, or the frequency of an incident light? Or would just memorizing example problems and the formulas used to solve them be enough?

You don't have to memorize formulas since they will be provided to us for the exam. I try to see what the information is provided and understand what they are asking for us to solve for, then I try to use/find the equations that use that information we have and go from there.

I am pretty sure Dr. Lavelle said that we just need to understand the concept and not worry about the formulas . So, most likely the formulas will be provided on the exams.

You don't need to memorize any formulas. I think I was told the main focus of our studies should be to learn how to apply and manipulate them.

Learn how to use the formulas and apply them to the concepts! The formula needed for the question will be provided along with the question, as well as any constants required.

I believe they're given, but i would say doing practice problems utilizing the same formula can help you memorize maybe.

Doing multiple practice problems usually helped me to memorize a lot of the formulas! I would also try flash cards and or quizzing myself with friends so help me memorize formulas.

Color coded flashcards, and also writing the formula in a red (or any vivid colored) pen tends to help me a lot:)
