Re: Participation
The points aren't posted to CCLE or MyUCLA, but you can just check by yourself to see if you've posted the right amount of times by taking the week # and multiplying it by 5 and comparing it to the number of matches in the "your posts" section.

click on your name and it should tell you how many posts you have. Just remember each week requires 5 posts so remember to account for that when calculating if you get all your participation points.

If we didn't do a full 5 one week, but then made up for it the next week does that count? Like only 3 one week, but then 7 the next?

Re: Participation
If you click on "your posts" under quick links on the right side it says how many posts you have made. I think on Thursday this week they will update our grades for posting on Chemistry Community.

No, posts don't roll over to the next week. You have to do 5 each week, regardless of how many you did in the previous weeks.

Re: Participation
You should have about 5 posts per week with a total of 50 posts by the end of the quarter
Re: Participation
So do they check every single week? I think sometimes I post more one week and a little less the next... is that a bad thing :(

Re: Participation
The points through week 4 are posted on CCLE under Grades. If you've been posting 5 times a week, then you should have a total of 20 points. By the end of the quarter you need 50 points, which means you need a total of 50 posts.

Re: Participation
yes, we have been. If you look on ccle they keep us updated whenever we post our participation weekly. By the of this week, you should have 25/50. Don't be scared tho, the 50 accounts for up until the semester ends. So if you are worried about seeing it not full credit, it'll keep updating until we finish this course

I think you have to have 5 posts per week and they don't carry over, but I also I heard that it might also depend on your TA and how they choose to grade.

Re: Participation
On ccle, your points have been updated until week 4! If you received 20 points so far, that means you have been getting full credit for your posts. At this point in time, you should have at least 35 posts (i think) in order to continue receiving full credit.

I think it depends on when he chooses to collect the posts. I heard from past years that it might be ok at times, but I definitely wouldn't risk anything.

Yeah, you can check the points you've received under the grade section of the chemistry page on CCLE
Re: Participation
Do you guys know if we're allowed to "make up" participation points from posts. Like if we make 4 posts one week and 6 the next?

I once emailed Dr.Lavelle about Chem Community and he verified that if you are missing a couple of points here or there from CC, you can still make up for those by the end of the quarter.

Yeah I missed some points but then made up for them in other weeks and they still got counted.

I believe they recently updated the point totals for chemistry community participation on MyUCLA. It should be at 35/50 as of now.

You can check your grades on cycle and there are updated chemistry community points. At the end of this week, you should have 45 points.

Re: Participation
The 5 points are rewarded per week, but last week I accidentally forgot and wrote all 5 of my posts on Monday, the day after it was due. I still got the points so I don't think that it's super strict. The grades should be updated to say 45 points if you did all the required posts.

Chemistry community points are counted up every couple weeks and at the end of the quarter. I recommend checking chemistry community to see how many points you have though so that you know to stay on top of things.

They are usually always updated on myUCLA under chem 14A grades. the 17th (tomorrow) at 8 am is the last day to post!

Yeah you get five points per week so if you have posted five times or more each week you get fifty points.

Re: Participation
I think it depends on the TA, some TAs have said that you can make-up points I believe. I would email your TA if you are unsure.

Where are our participation points? I checked both ccle and ucla and I didn't see them

To find them on MyUCLA:
- Click "Classes" in the navigation bar, and follow the link "Exam and Homework Grades" under the category "Grades and Transcripts".
- On that page, make sure the drop-down menus say "Fall" and "Chem 14A Lec _" and scroll to the bottom of the page.
- You should see the small heading "CCLE Grades for Fall 2020 - General Chemistry for Life Scientists I - CHEM 14A LEC _".
- In this table, you should see your Chemistry Community points through week 9 as Weekly Online Discussion.
- If you have obtained all of the points through week 9, it will say 45/50, any less than that is points that you have missed.

I don't know about you but my Chem Community points have been updating week by week.

Yes! I emailed him earlier this week and he said chemistry community will be open for posting until tomorrow at 10 for os to make up any missed weeks and we will get full credit for it

Re: Participation
You can only see once they have updated grades on ccle. Sometimes it takes a week, sometimes it takes 3 weeks. It really depends. But as long as you know you are participating 5 times a week, you should get full points no matter what :D
Re: Participation
I believe there is a bot that counts your number of new posts per week, so as long as you are doing 5 per week you will be getting full credit. Sometimes the CCLE grades update a litle late but it always is correct when it gets updated.

I think its best to just try to post 5 times a week to ensure that you are receiving all the points for the week.

Re: Participation
The points for participation can bee seen on your gradebook on ccle. But I don't think that they are updated regularly. Last quarter when I took chem 14A, it took about 3 weeks for the first set of participation points to be uploaded.

Agreeing with the posts above, making sure that you have 5 posts per week will be sufficient. You can check through the "Your Posts" section as well as the gradebook on MyUCLA.

As far as I know, I believe my TA mentioned that Lavelle just checks at the end of the quarter and you receive all your points at once.
Re: Participation
You can not check directly for a grade but if you go to "your posts" and count you should be able to tell how much is completed.

my TA said they check at the end of the quarter, so as long as you have 50 posts in total at the end, you will be fine!
Re: Participation
Not every post has to be academic related right? Like asking this question should count as one.

From what I understand, As long as you stay active in chemistry community, posting, asking you should be great!

I think the grading of the posts depends on which TA you have some do it by week and some do it at the end. However I am not certain this is just what I have heard

Under your user name, on the right side of your post, it shows the number of posts you have. That is the number of times you have posted on the chemistry community.

There are no grades posted yet for Chemistry Community participation, but if you have *the week # multiplied by 5* number of posts you are on the path to receive full credit.

There aren't any points posted on CCLE yet, but you can check by clicking on your posts. The number should be at the top. If you just look from your posts, usually the number is 1 more than actual, so I would just look from your profile to make sure.
