Exercising Our Minds and Bodies

Postby Hannah_Kim_1I » Tue Nov 10, 2020 6:54 pm

Lavelle has mentioned the importance of exercising our mind and body so I was interested to see what types of exercises everyone was up to! I usually just go for walks/runs with my dog.

Hi fellow Once B)

I wish I could learn the choreo to "I Can't Stop Me" but Twice's choreos are too hard.

I would say one of the best things you can do to rest your mind and body is take a quick 30-45 min power nap. Try not to sleep any longer because you will feel tired and drowsy. I take naps almost every day, and they really help.

I've been trying to skateboard because it seem to exert a lot more energy than I thought initially. I didn't think I would get so much more exhausted by skateboarding rather than running.

I go biking on my free time around my neighborhood when I can. Sometimes, I go on the trampoline or just take a walk. All of these help me clear my mind and relax a little bit

I try to go for a walk every day either in the morning or evening, and then a few times a week I go jogging. I find that sitting in front of my laptop can make me really stiff so stretching or yoga is also a great idea.

I usually go for a run to get my body moving :) I would really recommend using Google Maps to chart your own custom route beforehand, and then go out and run it! I've been able to discover a lot of hidden trails/destinations this way, and it makes you feel like you're on an adventure lol

I find it hard sometimes between classes and school work to make room in my schedule in get out and do some exercise so I've found it very help to keep yourself in a routine and have set times to do a workout or go out and get some air! It's a really nice way to clear your mind between all the studying

Unfortunately I live two blocks away from the 110 freeway, so I prefer not to go on runs near my house. I make due with some at home workouts. You'd be surprised what you can find on youtube! I try to workout at least 5 times a week, but between work, school and sleep it's sadly more like twice a week! Fill in your gaps wherever you can! Pushups, planks, squats, jumping jacks, shadow boxing, (or even free weight reps with a backpack full of books) between subjects will help get your blood flowing!

I usually have intermittent dance parties in my room throughout the day. I also watch youtube dance videos and try and copy the choreography, but I am not the best dancer. I try and run but finding the motivation to run can be hard.

I run about 5 miles a day. Ok so originally I started working out and running this January for the sole reason of getting ready for college and looking sNaTcHeD and literally no intentions of being healthy. It was literally for all the wrong reasons. But then I liked it eventually because exercising is the only time I get out of my house and have time to myself. Lol fast forward and exercising my mind and body became a habit teheeee.

My friend just showed me a study about the positive effects cold water can have on your body, so if you are by the ocean, going for a dip can be a nice (but quite chilly) way to give a shock to your body but in the good way :)

I just saw this post, and I had to reply. I LOVE Twice so much, it made me so happy seeing this!!! I've been wanting to learn this too, except sadly for me I am seriously terrible at dancing.

Anyways, to answer the question, I exercise mostly by running. I try to run at least 5 times a week for at least 2 miles each run. Funny enough, even though I am literally exercising my body, I find that running is the best exercise for my mind. It's my main way of relieving stress and anxiety of school (:

What's up y'all. I don't really exercise on a tight schedule as of yet, I usually go on a 4 mile run a few times a week. I play basketball around once a week as well. Honestly, it's a good way to de-stress after studying for chemistry.

There are some really good exercise videos on youtube too! I usually do a full body one from Madfit or Pamela Reif.

Lol, coming here after watching Dr. Lavelle's latest lecture. I really like Madfit's song workouts! Short, but intense. "Say So" has me hurting.

I usually workout in the morning and occasionally go on runs :) Also, bear-crawling, you should all try it is a very good full body exercise.

I also walk my dog every day twice. However, it's becoming cold recently, so I'm also doing aerobics inside and it's really fun! I recommend everyone to try aerobics.

Taking a break from the screens we have to stare at for hours really helps me, even though it may not be considered exercising haha. It does help with relaxing your mind and resetting yourself so that you're ready to start being productive again:)

Whenever I get overwhelmed with school and bored of staring at my laptop, I go for a walk usually to the park.

Haha I love this. I like to be outside so I like to go for walks and if someone can come with me and time permits it, I like to go hiking:)

I usually go out for a walk around my neighborhood for some air or bike around, but it's been getting a little cold where I am for that now

I love reading these responses! I personally love yoga and I think it helps in both aspects. I also think walks outside are really important if possible to do, because we are always on Zoom. I hope you have a great rest of your week!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Living in California is such a blessing right now because it's still relatively warm outside to go for a run. I also really enjoy playing tennis -- it's a great workout for your mind and body :)

I am a dancer so I tend to dance a lot in order to exercise my mind and body! But sometimes just going on long drives with the windows down helps me. Being outside in general is therapeutic.

I like working out to Blogilates videos. Cassey has a monthly calendar that lists different workouts to do each day which makes exercising interesting!

I try to run for a little everyday but sometimes it's just hard to find motivation. It definitely helps me mentally to exercise though.

When the weather is nice, I play basketball. However, with the cold season lately, I've been exercising my mind indoors through playing chess.

I like going on runs because it helps me destress. I usually go on trails, but when the weather is bad I just run on the treadmill.

I try to exercise in the morning to get the day started, but I've really been enjoying walking my dog while listening to music during my study breaks!

One of my favorite activities to do to exercise my mind and bodies is to dance because I like to test my creativity while also working out my body.

hi!

I usually walk around campus with my roommate (since we're down in Westwood).
I also like to hula hoop. Super easy and fun! Helps trim your waist down :)

I like to do HIIT workouts at home. Compared with other forms of exercise, I find this to be the most beneficial and relaxing for me. After working out i definitely feel refreshed and much less stressed than I felt before. I also love to do Yoga. Doing Yoga helps me out a lot if I ever feel anxious or anything.
