Final Study
I know it's really soon, especially since we just got back our midterm scores, but when are y'all going to start studying for the final? I was thinking of starting to review the first couple topics by Monday since we're still going to have content that lasts all the way till 2 days before the final. Any suggestions on how to study effectively??

Re: Final Study
I would suggest redoing the textbook problems that were assigned to us and reading the textbook. Something that I like to do is create flashcards to quiz myself on key concepts. If more people are interested, we could also form a study group to discuss difficult topics and work on problems together.

Re: Final Study
Try to go to as many step up, workshop, and review session possible. They will be reviewing a lot of stuff in those. If you have not already, do the textbook problems and if you have done them, I recommend to review them or redo them. Lastly, I would ask your TA for any tips/suggestions and if you missed anything on the midterm to go back and review those mistakes with you. Also, review notes. Hope this helps!

Likewise, I found the textbook problems most helpful when studying for tests (especially since actual test questions come from these practice problems). It also is important to know the concepts behind these questions since Dr. Lavelle chooses tricky problems that demonstrate multiple concepts to put on the exam.

Re: Final Study
I don't think it's ever too early to study for finals, and it's honestly great if you have time for it now so that you don't have to cram later! I've found Sapling problems and attending UA/TA worksheets the most useful, and would highly recommending using those sources as a way to refresh the content we've learned so far!

I've personally been watching YouTube videos on the earlier topics just to refresh and try to remember the things that we've already learned

I would suggest redoing textbook problems that you found difficult when studying for the past 2 midterms.

Khan Academy has some little quizzes with practice problems from some of the units we learned. I like to use them because they give an explanation to why you answered the question wrong

Re: Final Study
I would try and do more of the textbook problems, and definitely find some of the worksheets from past workshops. If you search chemistry community, you can usually find some :)

The most effective tip I would give is to do the textbook problems. They have been really helpful to prepare for exams.

yeah I think redoing the homework problems since week 1 will be best and it's a good idea to start doing those this week

You should definitely try to study now by allotting time to each topic every day. Also, going to the step-up sessions helps more than you would think.

Study each topic, then go through the questions we got on sapling as homework. Follow this up by reviewing your problem-solving skills from the textbook. The questions assigned to us are very helpful and make you understand the topics better.

Re: Final Study
For the final I'm going to really make sure I know how to do all the textbook problems we've been given, especially the trickier ones. If I can, I'll go through the video modules from the first few topics again since we haven't touched on that material in a long time. I'm also going to try to attend more UA sessions since I found those really helpful for reinforcing the new content we're getting in class!

Re: Final Study
I'm probably going to start studying later this week. I'm going to be studying by practicing the textbook problems, going to the step-up sessions, and as the final gets closer I'll try to study with some people.

I'm going to start studying tomorrow since I also need to prepare for my other classes. Like the comments above, I find the book problems really helpful and will go over them.

I will try to start as early as possible because I don't want to cram all the material before the final.
I will be watching youtube review videos as well as redoing the textbook questions and UA worksheets. Good luck studying and on the final :)

Re: Final Study
I held off studying for the previous midterm because of issues occurring in my household and boy was that a mistake. The best thing to do is to start studying as early as possible to that you don't cram anything and feel well prepared instead of nervous.

Re: Final Study
I am going to start studying for the final this coming week -- week 9. I am just going to start by re doing the textbook problems and making a cheatsheet/guide on how to do all types of problems so it will be easy to remember how to tackle problems. I also am going to be attending UA sessions throughout week 9/10. Lavelle said there will be a lot of review times week 10 so I am looking forward to that. It's all about nailing down those practice problems.
I am also going to meet with my TA to see what I missed on the last 2 exams.

If anyone is interested in creating a study group let me know ! I think its beneficial for the additional help.

I'm probably going to start sometime this week to start redoing all of the textbook and sapling homework problems to start studying. I will also start reviewing all of my lecture notes one week prior to the exam.

I think I'm going to attend the review sessions for week 10, but start studying mid way this week to make sure I put in enough hours. The shape content requires some memorization, so it's better to start sooner.

I plan to make study guides for myself and do a lot of practice problems from the textbook. Hopefully I'll go to more UA sessions since they were helpful for me in the beginning of the quarter. Good luck to everyone :)
Re: Final Study
I have been reviewing problems in the book and on Sapling. Are there any specific Youtube channels anyone can recommend that effectively review this course's material?

Personally, I watch organic chemistry tutor on youtube when I need clarification on concepts! The videos are very detailed, clear, and helpful :)

Oho that's a really good idea.
Re: Final Study
I've mostly been reviewing the problems like a lot of other people, but I think skimming through the lectures is a pretty good way to review as well :)

I've been doing the past assigned problems from the earlier focus topics, and honestly I need the review. Going to step-up sessions and reviewing the exam questions would probably help as well.
Re: Final Study
Usually I start studying for finals the week after thanksgiving. I'm planning on reviewing concepts with youtube videos and doing practice problems from the book! (-:

Re: Final Study
Reviewing and rewriting/condensing my notes onto a review sheet and doing practice problems has been helpful so far. I will also try to do as many practice finals as possible if they are available.
