How are the finals compared to the difficulty of midterms? Are they more complex?

Last quarter, I found the final harder than the midterms, in part because it covered material from the whole quarter. However, there were lots of review opportunities that helped!

I agree with Alex, last quarter I found the final a little more difficult just because it was cumulative and had to review everything from earlier weeks. And like Alex said, there are alot of review sessions that UAs hold and they are very helpful. I would say trying going to at least one a day

Finals were more difficult than the midterm in terms of the content covered, but I found that reviewing lecture notes, doing all the textbook problems assigned, and going to some UA final review sessions helped with preparing for the final.

In terms of the best review resource I think the textbook is a must for reviewing since some questions from exams are even pulled form the textbook.

honestly last quarter the midterms and the final felt relatively equal in the difficulty of the questions. The only difference is the amount of content covered

Last quarter, the final felt harder, just because there were more questions and it covered the content of the entire quarter. So unlike the midterms where I focused on specific topics, I had to make sure I studied and brushed up on everything.

From last quarter, I found the finals to be more difficult than the midterm, especially since - as others have noted - that the exam covered material from the entire quarter, rather than a set of a couple topics.

I agree with those above. The final was harder mostly because there were more questions and content. The questions themselves weren't necessarily more difficult. Plenty of help appears for reviewing though, so I'd suggest attending those sessions.

Last quarter, I thought that the final was pretty difficult because it was just so overwhelming to process all of the information with such a strict time constraint. I would expect 14B's to maybe be the same level of difficult or a little harder because of sheer content but I'm more than sure we'll have enough resources and practice to prepare us for it beforehand!

The final was harder for last quarter, but I think Dr. Lavelle realized that and will try to make this final more equal to the midterms (at least I hope!)

For 14a in this class, I thought the final was a lot harder than the midterms. I did well on the midterms, but I wasn't happy with my final results. But this is just my opinion.

I agree with others as I found the final significantly harder than the midterms. I prepared the same way for both types of exams (except a lot more for the final), but it was still very challenging. I think I will spend more time practicing questions from the textbook this quarter.

As everyone else said, the final was a bit more difficult. I did find that the UA's had some insight into the types of questions that Dr. Lavelle likes to ask, so going to as many review sessions as possible along with redoing textbook problems helped a lot.

I feel the same as others, I found the final to be distinctly harder than the midterm mostly because it covered material from the entire quarter. But the many review session available are very helpful when reviewing!

Finals are much more difficult than midterms, mainly because they are cumulative! For midterms, you basically have a good idea of what is going to be on the exam, but for the final, a question on any of the topics/outlines can appear.

The final exam was a lot harder than the midterms for me last quarter. I found the questions more complex and since there are more questions, the time constraint made it harder. However, doing a lot of practice problems and timing yourself should help you prepare!

Last quarter, the final was way harder than the midterms, in my opinion. I definitely needed more time.

Last quarter I felt that I prepared a lot more for the final than the midterms but it was definitely much harder, I barely finished. However, Lavelle provides many resources for us to use in preparation for the exam (like TA/LA sessions on each outline topic throughout the week).

I thought the final last quarter was really hard compared to the midterms as I felt that I was really pressed for time during the exam. But there definitely ample opportunities beforehand to get help for any topics that you might be struggling with. Also it definitely helps to get to know your calculator beforehand and any tricks/ shortcuts that may be programmed on it.

When I took the final last quarter, it definitely felt harder than the midterms. But, that makes sense since it's a culmination of everything. You got this though! Going to the UA sessions to review was a big help.

I remember that the final was significantly more difficult than the midterms, many student complained about the lack fo time they were given to complete the exam.

Do you guys think Dr. Lavelle will give us more time on the final, like he did for the second midterm? Having the extra time helped me sooo much, and I'm scared about how the time crunch will be, especially on the final.

For 14A the final was significantly more difficult than the midterms. But for 14B the midterms have also been challenging, so I am hoping it won't be too much harder :(

The final last quarter for 14a felt a lot harder than the midterms personally. I will definetly be going to review sessions this week in preparation because the final will be cumulative.

I would say it's about the same level of difficulty. For this class though, I think it'll be a little easier because the concepts are really connected to one another.

I actually did better on the final than the second midterm last quarter, but I redid every single textbook problem and attended as many review sessions as I could! Just review as much as you can!

I thought the questions were relatively the same difficulty as the midterms but the amount of questions and span of topics tested made it more difficult.

Based on last quarter's final, I would say that the final exam was more difficult than the midterms. I found that the questions were more applicational and required more critical thinking :)

I believe the midterms and the finals had relatively similar difficulty levels but the finals were a bit more challenging. It may have been because the finals are cumulative so we need to take into consideration everything we learned during the course, but the UA sessions and OH Dr. Lavelle uploaded help a lot so I suggest going to them if one feels they need more practice on certain topics!

I think the difficulty is actually pretty comparable! It just takes longer since you have to keep going through for like double the amount of questions during the final. Last quarter I think a lot of people thought the final was a lot harder, but I thought the level of difficulty was somewhat expected. If you've done satisfactory for yourself on the 14B midterms up until now and keep with it you should be prepared!

Does anyone remember how much of the 14A final was concept based or calculation based? This past midterm was heavy on conceptual so I’m just curious.

I think Lavelle said that the final is meant to be 90 min long. So there's more time, but I bet it will also be a bit longer so it probably all evens out anyways.

Last quarter the final was harder than the midterm. I think there's also the fact that the final has all 10 weeks of content while midterms only have 3-4 weeks of content. Good luck! :-)

Last quarter's final was definitely a step up from the midterms. Honestly the midterms were child's play in comparison to the 14A final. That said, Lavelle was nice enough to recognize that the final was more difficult than he probably intended and curved it to give our grades a slight boost. That being said, I wouldn't count on a curve this time around. It can certainly happen, but the best way to prepare is just to do as much practice as you can this week!

Yeah, I would say the finals in Lavelle's classes are usually pretty touch and catch you off guard. This is all just based on the chem 14A final.

I thought the final for 14A was a lot harder than both midterms (probably because it was cumulative), but thankfully we were able to get some points back.

Finals will definitely be harder than midterms because of how much material we will have to be accountable for. Going to review sessions will definitely help with this!

The final was more challenging for me last quarter but that was mostly due to the fact that there's way more material covered and I just could not extensively study everything. I did do noticeably worse on my final than my two midterms last quarter, so I'm definitely nervous right now.
