Re: Chem 14B and 14BL
After talking to some upperclassmen it seems that if you really enjoy chemistry and have a strong foundation of all the concepts then you can take 14B and 14BL in the same quarter. However many people hold off on taking 14BL until they're done with 14B because it helps to understand the material before doing the labs. My friend who is a sophomore is taking 14BL next quarter so you definitely do not have to stress about taking it right away. Hope this helps!

It depends, if two classes from a series are co-requisites then they can be taken at the same time--like Chem 14b and bl. If you click on the course name, for instance, in your course planner, it will give you details and tell you requisites and co-requisites for a specific course.

Re: Chem 14B and 14BL [ENDORSED]
When I was planning my classes with my counselor for the next quarter, she initially didn't include 14BL with 14B, but when I asked her about it, she said that I definitely could take it together. I think that most people don't take it together but you could if you wanted to. However, as someone else previously mentioned, it might be easier to take 14BL after taking 14B because you would have a better understanding of the concepts.

I was thinking of taking 14B winter quarter, but does that mean I should take 14BL and 14C winter quarter or just 14BL?

Re: Chem 14B and 14BL
Though it's definitely possible to take Chem 14B and 14BL in the same quarter, I think it's actually quite rare that people take them in the same quarter. I've heard people start LS 2 winter quarter and hold off 14BL until their second year. Ultimately, if you feel sure enough with your understanding of chem, go for it! Good luck!

Re: Chem 14B and 14BL
I was talking to a friend of mine who had similar concerns about taking 14B and 14BL, and whether or not to take them at the same time. I think the biggest worry was if it was mandatory to take both at the same time, which it isn't. An upperclassmen friend later advised me that I should hold off taking 14BL until I have a firmer grasp on chem if the subject is not my forte. So, it is pretty much just based on how comfortable you are with the material.

I had the same question. If anyone knows, if we put off taking 14BL (which I have also been advised to do) until after we take 14B, the following quarter should we take 14BL and 14C simultaneously? Or would it be advised to always only take one chem-related class at a time?
Re: Chem 14B and 14BL
I talked to the counselor and she recommended not taking BL until 3rd year for pre-med students because you want to get all the sciences you need for MCAT by the end of 2nd year. That is if you are not taking a gap year.

Re: Chem 14B and 14BL
I'm planning on taking Chem 14B next quarter and then taking 14BL the next quarter after that. Would you recommend doing this or waiting until the end of the 14 series to take the labs?

That would be the best option.
Re: Chem 14B and 14BL
I had this same question so I was wondering if someone can provide some more recent insight. Or do the same ideas mentioned earlier still hold true?
