Are the UA sessions still taking place next week or just these review sessions?

Professor Lavelle,

You mentioned in the Email that we will finish the syllabus on Wednesday and all material covered will be tested on.

Does it mean that we will finish buffers and titrations?

I already announced in my 11am lecture that we will finish the syllabus this Wednesday.
Wednesday onwards will be example calculations, review from previous sections, etc.

Wednesday we have two more pages of lecture notes and then I will do example calculations in class and in my review session.
See your lecture notes: Wednesday I will cover the last two pages (173 and 174), then I'll do example calculations.

See Syllabus, last section is Chapter 13.1 to 13.7 (Buffers and Titrations).

What acids and bases should we know for the final? Is there a specific list either in the course reader or the textbook that we should study?

Yes, see the acid/base lists in the course reader.

Are we only responsible for the ones in the course reader?

Are we expected to know all of the Ka and Kb values for the common acids and bases?

You will only be responsible for the acids/bases listed in the course reader unless we give you information for a different acid/base on the Final.

As for specific Ka and Kb values, you will not be expected to know the values. We will give you them if needed. However, it would be wise to look over the tables on p. 164 in the course reader and familiarize yourself with the relative Kas and Kbs of the various compounds. This way you will not be so surprised if you see them on the final.

In the most recent email sent out, it states the final will have no derivations. Can you expand on what this is referring to or what you mean by this?

You will not be asked to derive an equation.

Will I be able to place my backpack at the front of the room during the final? I have to go to office hours with my laptop immediately after the exam.
