Writing in Pen

Is writing in pen on the tests required? I am asking because it adds to my stress because I feel like everything is a mess. I realize that we are allowed to write out our work on scratch paper first and then transfer it over, but we are already pressed for time as it is. Can I just write in pencil and miss out on an opportunity for a regrade?

I would say just practice by doing your homework in pen. Getting used to it now will help you in the long run I think. I use to only work in pencil, so I know how you feel, but I would say don't worry too much about making mistakes as you can always cross them out, and focus on solving the Chem problems. Hi,

I asked this question to my TA on friday before TEST1 and she said that it's fine to write with a pencil as long as you can clearly read the answer.
It might depend on the person who correct the paper so i think that you should ask this question before taking the test.

As someone said before, I do most of my homework in pen and it does take some getting used to but it has allowed me to be comfortable using a pen on exams in my previous courses.

I found some erasable pens on amazon so I'm just going to try using them on tests.

If you really dislike writing in pen, I would just ask your TA whether he/she cares! My TA said she did not mind whether we use pen or not.

You should talk to your TA about it but if not then try practicing with a pen on some of your assignments. i hope this helps

For the in discussion tests it depends on the TA but for the exams I doubt he'd be strict on it as long as your writing is clear but you might want to ask someone who's taken the course before.

My TA said that if you write in pencil on your test he has to write over everything you wrote in pen, so you can't change your answers later. But do whatever makes you feel less stressed and more focused. I use to hate writing in pen but forcing your self to use it more and more will help. Usually all college level math, science, and physics courses at least I have taken require you to use pen on tests. So it may be a good habit to practice.

You should definitely ask your TA. My TA for instance told us she didn't mind if we wrote with pencil. But its all up to the TA I guess.

Yeah ask your TA, but pens are used so you can't change your answer after it was graded

My TA personally requested that we did the first test in pen but I guess it's up to the TA. However, on the syllabus, Dr. Lavelle states that "All tests and exams are closed book and must be written in pen." So get used to it by using pen on homework if you feel like it.

They sell erasable pens on Amazon. I'd also recommend bringing white-out just in case you need to correct something!

I agree with the erasable pens. They come in 5 packs on amazon and most have pretty durable erasers. Just make sure the pens you get don't smear when you erase! The low quality pens will leave marks on your paper so test them out beforehand.
