Advice on Homework
Hi everyone, I was wondering if we have to do ALL the textbook questions listed in the syllabus or if we just pick 5 and do those... I just did 5 for the first assignment, but is it helpful to do more? Thanks!

Re: Advice on Homework
It is definitely helpful to do all of the questions given by Dr. Lavelle as it is good practice. However, you only have to submit 5 questions per week to your TA for grading.

Hello! In my experience it has been helpful to do all the problems so you can be exposed to as many concepts and ways of phrasing questions as possible. Hope this helps!

Re: Advice on Homework
Hey! I believe it is highly recommended to do the textbook readings (E,F,G,H,L 1-2, M) and the textbook problems that accompany them. I believe you only have to turn in 5 at the end of the week, but I would say do them all and check your answers with the solutions manual for the best review.
Re: Advice on Homework
Hey! I am planning on doing all the questions listed on the syllabus. Should I turn in all of them or just 5 of them?

Just turn in the 5 of your choice. You can turn in the easiest 5 or the most difficult 5. It is entirely up to you.

Re: Advice on Homework
Even though we only have to turn in five questions, I think it is good practice to do most of the other problems.

Re: Advice on Homework
I also know that it's a lot of work, but think of the homework more as studying/practicing for the tests and quizzes. If you are aiming for a high grade in the class, I would definitely recommend trying all of them.
Re: Advice on Homework
I think even though we are only obliged to do 5 questions it would be better in the long run if we looked at at least half of the fundamental questions professor outline on the class website.

Re: Advice on Homework
At least look at all of the questions and their answers if you know you won't have time to physically do them all, because then at least you have some idea of what the test questions could look like.

Re: Advice on Homework
I usually do all the homework problems per each section after the lectures so that it'll help me study for the midterm. But technically, you only have to do 5 just to get the points for homework.

you can turn in just 5 or all of them, I don't think it matters. the TA will probably just grade the first 5 if you turn all of them in.

Re: Advice on Homework
In terms of preparation for the midterm, I definitely think it will be helpful to do all the problems, because one of them will appear on our midterm, but in general, for our homework, you only need to do 5 to get full points.

Re: Advice on Homework
Agreed, doing all the problems will definitely help you, but only 5 is necessary for the homework.
