Yes sapling is the only homework that is taken for a grade, but the extra homework problems that Dr. Lavelle lists on the syllabus and chapter outlines are a great way to prepare for the exams!

The e textbook will take the least amount of time to access so I recommend getting that one.

Yes, I believe Sapling is the only mandatory homework. Professor Lavelle gives us textbook problems as well but those problems are not graded.

Yes, Sapling is the only mandatory homework, but the textbook problems that Professor Lavelle gives us is still HIGHLY recommended. I didn't have chem last quarter, but everyone is telling me that it would be extremely helpful to do them.

Usually not. But you can find answers for most of them at the end of the textbook. And if you can't, usually chemistry community (here) has the answer

For the extra practice textbook problems, I believe Prof. Lavelle had posted it on his site under Solution Manual Errors 7th Edition. You can check some of the answers there.

Hey would you mind sending the link that includes the bundle please, since I'm unable to find it. Thank You!!

Under the CCLE website for the class, there should be a tab on the left navigation panel that says "UCLA Course Store Material". If you click on that link, it should redirect you to a link where you can find and purchase the bundle.

If you get the e-text, then it comes with the solutions manuel! not sure if that is included in the looseleaf version.

It's just a pdf which can be accessed and downloaded from sappling. the access code was mailed to me but some people received it through email

I am a little confused about textbooks for this class(chem14a). From my understanding, we just have the ebook and achieve assignments online. Can anyone confirm?

If you're enrolled in the class I believe that you can get it through inclusive access provided by UCLA. It's free up until week 3 and they automatically charge you for it if you don't opt out. But I don't know if it is cheaper than buying the ebook from somewhere else.

does anyone know if Dr. Levelle will recommend readings in sync with the lectures, so we can find the resources easily (unlike the LS series, all of the textbook is open and accessible, so it can be difficult to find the recommended readings)

Are the achieve homework quizzes aligned with certain sections of the textbook? Is there an information page associated with the quiz that could direct us to a chapter where the topics are covered?

Is there any way to save the PDF textbook to my ebook app on my laptop without paying for it again?

Like some others on this thread, I bought my e-textbook as a rental on Amazon. I like this option because it's so easily accessible.

I think you can only access an e-textbook through buying it online like on amazon or from obtaining it through your schooling system. Its usually a pdf version of the text and it is on your site for the chem class you are taking.

Correct, but it isn't necessarily due every sunday. For example, this weeks assignment covers weeks 2-4 so it is not due this sunday. Instead, it is due sunday midnight of week 4.

Hi! I believe it's cheaper to just buy the book by yourself. It's just easier access with inclusive access. The deadline to opt-out of inclusive access has passed though.

From what I've seen, our homework is just posting on here and the achieve assignments. The e-book is for us to use along with all the other resources, I hope this helps.

What have people found helpful when reading the textbook and what was on the midterm? I studied for midterm 1 but mostly doing practice problems and did not study concepts as much since I only reviewed my lecture notes. Is the textbook congruent and a helpful aid to lecture material without having excessive material?

I did the textbook through the UCLA bookstore and it came with access to the achieve homework.

The E-textbook is preferred because it provides additional resources. The online textbook includes Acheive, which is required for this class.

Currently, you get access to the E-textbook automatically because you need to access achieve to complete the homework assignments
