Hi,

Does anyone know from upperclassmen and the like whether taking 14B and 14BL together would be too much in a schedule with 4 classes?

I'd appreciate any and all input! Thank you.

Its a lot of commitment, with the studying from 14B and the hours spent in lab. Its suggested you take them separate quarters, or even better, take the lab during summer if you can!

My counselor recommended that I take Chem 14B and 14BL afterwards so that I won't be confused with the content from the lab. Basically, 14B will prepare you for the lab.

Yea I think for the most part people take it in separate quarters just because it's easier that way.

Most people take 14BL after fully finishing 14A and 14B, so they could already have a good grasp on the concepts covered in lab. 14BL does require a lot of work, so I wouldn't recommend taking it with 3 other classes, especially if your other classes are also work heavy and time consuming.

I feel if you truly love chemistry and are willing to put in more effort to understand the concepts thoroughly to succeed in both classes, you can take both at once. Otherwise, if you need more time to process the new material I would hold off until the Spring quarter.
