Sapling HW Grade
For the Sapling problems, if we click on the "Hint" button in the right corner, does our score for that problem go down? As in, will we lose points for using hints? Thanks.
Re: Sapling HW Grade
I have not noticed it affecting my score in any way, it usually provides tips on where to start with a question

No, you don't get penalized for using hints. You also have unlimited tries. if you get the answer in the end, you'll receive full credit.

I think as long as you end up getting it correct (no matter how many times you attempt it or how many hints you get) you should still be getting 100%.

Textbook (Chemical Principles) and Sapling are excellent.
I set them up as a learning tool with no penalty for using hints, repeat attempts, etc.

Is there any way to see the solution to learn backwards without having to press 'give up'?

From what I saw while using Sapling and viewing the directions video on how to use it, there is no way to see the solution before giving the right answer unless you give up on the question. If you give up on a question, the video said that the points for the question will be lost as well. While I am sure that Dr. Lavelle gave us the ability to have hints and multiple attempts until we get it right, I do not know if we get full completion credit if we give up on a problem since the system would count it as points off.
Re: Sapling HW Grade
Students will not get full credit for an assignment if they give up on a question since they did not provide the correct answer.
Students do have the ability to use hints and also multiple attempts until they get it right (with no reduced score after using hints and repeat attempts).
Students are also encouraged to collaborate on Chemistry Community to figure out homework problems.
Hopefully all students put in the effort to get 100% on all homework.

No, you can use hints as well as multiple attempts I believe, as long as you get the correct answer in the end.

I personally didn't get penalized for taking a hint or attempting a problem multiple times! I think the point is to simply help you understand how to approach a problem
