Chemistry Community Quota

Postby Bella Wachter 1A » Mon Jan 04, 2021 12:29 pm

A previous poster asked about the requirements for the amount of posts we must have on this forum by the end of Chem 14B to get full credit. I believe the reply was that the posts were cumulative, building on last quarter.

However, I am coming from a different chemistry class with a different professor (14AE with Dr. Casey), so I did not have a Chemistry Community account for last quarter.

Will this mean the required posts (100 I believe was what the mod's reply said) will be less, or will I have to "catch up" to everyone else's posting quota to receive full credit?

Hi, you don't have to play catch up. The TAs will see how many posts you've made and considering yours is below 50, I think they'll assume you weren't in 14A with Lavelle last quarter and just base it off of starting from 0.

My guess is that since you are starting from 0, whoever grades the number of posts you are making will see that you are approaching 50 instead of 100. So, I believe you will only need to make 50 posts (100 seems like a lot of posts to make in one quarter).

since you came from a different class, I would assume that your total by the end of the quarter should be 50 posts. I would double check, but it wouldnt make sense for you to make 100 posts, when we only get 50 points from chem community

If you weren't in this class last quarter, I don't think you would have to catch up. You would just need 50 posts by the end (5 per week).

You most likely won't have to catch up because that would just be unfair to have to do double. I'm sure you just have to do the 50 posts like all of us who were previously in the 14a with Dr. Lavelle!

You will not have to play catch up. My understanding is that there are 5 points available each week and that you earn a point for each substantive interaction with the community (e.g. posting, replying etc.). To get full credit, you will have to interact with the community 5x each week for all of the 10 weeks of the course. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi, for each class of the chem series (A and B) with Lavelle we need 50 posts each. However, since you were not enrolled in Chem 14A with Lavelle, the total amount of posts that you should have by the end of the quarter should be 50 (5 posts per week).

I think what the reply meant was that if you were in both Chem 14A and Chem 14B then the total # of post you should have at the end of this class would be 100 (the posts last quarter do not count this quarter essentially), but since you didn't take Chem 14A with Lavelle your total posts at the end of this quarters should be 50 (5 per week).

I personally would ask your TA, but Im sure you don't need to get 100 posts if you just entered this quarter. As long as you hit 5 per week, for ten weeks, and have 50 total I'm sure you will be fine!

Plus, I don't think they're mean enough to make you do double ;)

They shouldn't expect you to make up for last quarter. Just inform your TA so they are aware when they input the grades.

I feel as though the TAs will be looking for posts made in 2021 so that it is fair throughout the class! Hope this helps.

The TAs will definitely be tracking your posts starting week one until the end of the quarter and you get credit for completing the 5 per week. So ideally, you should reach the 50 post mark.

You shouldn't have to play catchup. Just do 5 posts every week and you should be fine.

since you’re from a different class last quarter, you only have to do the 50 for this quarter. hope this helps!

I'm sure the TA's take note if you didn't have Lavelle for 14A. So long as you have 50 posts by the end of this quarter you should be fine I think.

Yeah, I don't think they check per week, you just have to have 50 posts by the end of the quarter!
