Grade issues
Does anyone know do we have a curve in this quarter's chem14A and how we calculate our grades? For example, how many points out 400 points should we get in order to get an A, and A-, B+...?

Re: Grade issues
I didn't read anything on the syllabus regarding a curve, but I have heard that there is a possibility of a curved grade. To get an A, 375 out of 400 points need to be achieved. For an A-, 360 points need to be achieved. For a B+, 348 points need to be achieved. To calculate these points, multiply the percentage goal by the total number of points (e.g. 0.90 x 400). This is, of course, not taking into account the possibility of a curve.

You can find everything you need on Professor Lavelle's website. I reckon reading a document in which there's all the information about grades.

From what I know, there is no specific number yet that is determined to be an A. Rather, Lavelle usually waits until all of the final grades are calculated to see how the grades are distributed. But keep in mind that 200/400 total points is a C-!

I have heard that there is normally a curve from previous students, but receiving at least 200 out of 400 points is a C-.

Re: Grade issues
My ta said that 50% of points is a C- but I think it can change based on the class's grades overall.
