Any Advice on Effective Studying for Chem
Hi everyone. It has been over a year since I last touch any bit of chem. Does anyone have any advice on how to study well for chemistry (especially for Lavelle's class since I did not take 14A with Lavelle).

Hi!
Honestly, I found studying for this class a bit difficult (for some reason I struggled to become comfortable with the format of the exam questions). For me, I recommend practicing the different concepts by using the questions/textbook readings assigned for each outline. That definitely helped me more than reviewing notes/lectures did :)
Best of luck to you!

I would try looking at videos on youtube to review and get extra practice. I usually watch Organic Chemistry Tutor and I try the practice problems he has in his videos as well.

Hi,
I think doing practice problems is a good way to practice and review.

I find the textbook problems from the syllabus extremely helpful and also using the outlines he provides to make a study guide of sorts!

I would do the textbook questions and look over notes. I also look at Youtube videos by the organic chemistry tutor if I'm confused, or post on the chem community.

Go to the step up and UA sessions! They are honestly so helpful and you can get a lot of extra practice from them and ask the UA's for help with questions you may have. They have all also taken the class before, so they know the material really well.

Hey! Just replying to say that I am in the same boat. I would say after reflecting on the past two midterms, i'd do more general practice problems to be more confident during exams. Understanding changes and relationships between values (such as Gibb's free energy and enthalpy/concentration relationships) is also helpful. Upcoming final sessions are also going to be announced, so I look forward to that! We got this :)
Re: Any Advice on Effective Studying for Chem
the textbook problems have been the most helpful to me as they outline exactly which concepts we are supposed to know. it's also a good idea to attend the TA review sessions, one of the harder problems from the last midterm had a similar problem in a TA review session that i hadn't seen in the textbook

For me, I like to do study sessions with my friends as well as go through the textbook problems. What I found to help most was when my friends and I would ask each other questions and present the ideas to one another since if we are able to teach a concept then we have fully grasped it ourselves.

During fall quarter, I relied mainly on the lectures to learn the content, but this quarter, I've begun reading the textbook more closely and found it really helpful in understanding the conceptual content, which I've noticed is tested really heavily on. The textbook, along with the textbook problems, along with guidance from the outlines, has been much more helpful than merely watching lectures. Good luck studying for finals!!

Re: Any Advice on Effective Studying for Chem
I always try and find youtube videos that can explain concepts in different ways to see if anything sticks better. But what I have found most useful is doing the worksheets that the TAs and UAs post on chemistry community! They usually post answer keys too so you can see how to do the problems if you're stuck.
Re: Any Advice on Effective Studying for Chem
I always redo all the achieve q's the day before the exam so everything is fresh. Also go to review sessions! Even if its all stuff you already knew, its good to get all the info one more time.

I certainly think doing the assigned textbook problems help so much as it allows us to put the concepts into practice.

Re: Any Advice on Effective Studying for Chem
I depend on doing the achieve questions to really understand the concepts and then all of the textbook problems given on the outlines. Usually both of these things together will give me a really good understanding of the topics and good preparation for the exam.
Re: Any Advice on Effective Studying for Chem
The textbook problems are very helpful and revisiting UA/TA worksheets.
