Midterm study

I didn't have Lavelle last quarter for 14A, so I'm not sure how the review sessions are and the amount is overwhelming. Which workshops/drop-ins/review sessions would you suggest? Thank you.

I suggest going to the UAs midterm reviews or the ones that are focused on concepts you don't really understand.

For review sessions, just go to the ones you feel like you would need the most amount of help in. They are lots of them to help fit with everyone's schedule, so if there's a particular section you don't feel confident in, you can go to multiple of the same topic. I would highly recommend the review session of all the topics.

Not only should you attend the review sessions but also work out as many homework problems as you can! Sometimes test questions will be based on homework problems and it'll help you grasp the concepts.

I recommend only going to the review sessions for the topics you need help on. Also definitely do the homework problems because 1 out 8 of the midterm questions will come from the homework problems.

I would say at least try to go to one review session in each topic like 1 in Acids and Bases and 1 in Thermochemistry and so on. They are really helpful! Even if you feel like you have a topic down, it's great as a review, so you can make sure you're going to be okay for the actual midterm.

I also found Lyndon and Matthew's 3 hour session to be super helpful last quarter. It's on Monday, February 10 this time from 6-9 P.M., and they give a super helpful worksheet and talk through the problem solving process, so I highly recommend attending if you have the time!

For Lavelle’s class, you just have to ensure that you know the foundational topics and complete the homework problems when possible. Go to the review sessions, and Lyndon’s LA sessions are pretty helpful.

From my experience, I went to one of each topic just to see where I was at in understanding. From there, I could really tell what other sessions I needed to go to based off how much I remembered/could do at each topics review. Then I would attend the sessions I felt I needed the most help in. For Lavelle's tests, there's really no such thing as too much practice. He tends to throw you curveballs or test you on topics you understand in difficult/confusing ways, so the more practice the better off you are!
