Hello everyone!
I hope everyone had a fun holiday season and a happy new year!
I was wondering what topics we need to have memorized from chem 14a for chem 14b.
Please let me know!
Thank you :)

Hi!
From experience, a lot of the stuff we learned in 14A are mostly fundamentals that we end up applying in concept/calculation to things we learn later down the line, but I think a nice one to keep in mind is the acid-base topic and concepts we touched on towards the end of 14A, as we'll definitely be looking into and elaborating on reactions of that kind very soon. :>

Adding on to that, I think acids and bases are probably the most directly applicable because we're going to do a whole unit this quarter about them, but definitely all the fundamentals are important for this class.

^^! Adding on to that I remember Dr. Lavelle mentioning in the first lecture that he will briefly go over the fundamentals of any new topic that he talks about. I wouldn't worry too much about spending a ton of time reviewing chem 14a material especially if you feel like you digested the content well then :))

Dr. Lavelle often starts small and builds up on topics whether you remember them or not! he does not make the assumption that all students have learned the material (even though most of us were in his class) rather than he takes his time to reintroduce it. Don't be too worried about reviewing.

Two simpler things you should know from chem14a is definitely unit conversions and balancing chemical equations! I think that applies to nearly every chemistry course you'll take.

I think Dr. Lavelle does a really good job of going over the concepts we learned in 14A and how we build off of those concepts in 14B.
