On Campus class vs. remote

Postby Fiona Huang 3C » Sun Mar 14, 2021 2:55 pm

Do you guys think they'll give us the option to choose fully remote classes next year? If so, would anyone consider doing it? To live abroad, or save money, etc?

As of right now I think UCLA is planning to have in person classes, but it seems like they're considering hybrid and fully remote too based on that survey they sent out. I'm hoping to be on campus and take at least some in person classes, but if things ended up being fully remote I would just stay home. At the very least, I believe they would have to make fully remote an option for international students since travel doesn't seem likely and so they would probably make it optional for students who live in the United States as well.

By upcoming fall classes should open up (in person) or at least that's what I have been told, but in my opinion, this remote learning, though convenient, does not work. Its very difficult to stay focused at home, or stare at a computer screen for hours upon hours every week. This is not good. Well, at least that's my opinion on it.

I think a lot of classes will hopefully be in person. Some of the larger lectures might still be remote though unfortunately.

I'm sure they'll try and give students the option but honestly I hate remote learning. I miss interacting and getting that in person connection. College is more than schoolwork in my opinion its about the experience as well.

I doubt that there will be the option to go fully remote. I know UCR is going for maximum in person classes next fall.

I think UCLA is trying to aim for mostly all in-person classes. Maybe big lecture halls may be online due to safety reasons.

I hope they do hybrid, I can't imagine how 300+ lecture halls are going to be. If they try and solution this by making enrollment spaces be less than I dont see how people will be able to enroll into the classes they need. I mean people already have a hard time getting classes

I think hybrid is more realistic but for smaller classes def in person

I think we won't know until a while from now. All we can do is hope for the best!

I think classes might be in person or a combination of both. If i had to choose I would much rather have classes in person.

I hope it will be in person and even if it is hybrid I would definitely want to live on campus.

If UCLA is planning to have all students vaccinated before fall quarter then hopefully everything will be in person!

I really hope they do hybrid if they don't go with fully remote. I definitely don't want in-person if theres going to be like 400+ students in a lecture. Plus, I really enjoy the flexibility of having classes online. Also, I don't have to stress about walking and making it to my 8am on time if it's remote. I can just open up my laptop and BAM I'm in class.

I definitely want to do one quarter abroad next year, I feel like it would be a great experience.

In general I would say that remote learning is much more relax in the sense of being able to manage your own schedule, however in-person is 1000 times better because the interactions feel so much more real.

I’d love to enroll in remote classes but I think UCLA wants to fully transfer to in-person

I think it's interesting that UCLA is transitioning to almost all in-person classes winter quarter because there were so many virtual options. I wonder if they'll go back to more virtual classes soon, if ever.

I am almost fully sure that their goal is to have in person class and that they will be very pushy for everyone to take in person if possible. I think that in person would be the best bet but of course in other situations of saving money and stuff then online may be more optimal

I think its going to be fully in person, unless COVID gets worse to levels like last year.

I think its good to be hybrid, so people can choose what form they learn better without missing out.

It's unfortunate, but so many people I know have been getting Covid recently! It seems that we won't have in-person classes for awhile. My friend was even saying he wouldn't be surprised if we got sent home :/
