Re: Study Tips
I think the best way to study for the midterm is to do lots of practice problems. The more exposure you have to different types of problems, the more familiar you get with the concepts and how to solve them. It also helps keep your brain engaged as opposed to passive learning methods like rewatching lectures.
Re: Study Tips
what I've done to study last quarter was to take notes of the notes I took in lecture so I end up with a more compressed version of my notes. I also like to do the practice problems that are listed on the syllabus for more help n practice.

Re: Study Tips
What I do is I go through the outlines that prof puts out and then try to answer each of the questions/make my own questions for them. Then I go to the textbook and do the practice problems that are associated with the unit.
The final thing that I do that I find has helped the most for me is to go to the UA workshops because they go over a lot of practice problems and solve them and even give you tips on how to do the questions. These are literally the best resource that chem has imo.

Re: Study Tips
I like doing the achieve questions and then finding similar questions online and trying to complete those too, and I have found that it has helped me to be a lot quicker at solving the problems.

Doing the assigned problems from the textbook is super helpful, especially since some of them show up on the exams! It also just helps you feel more prepared since you know what kinds of problems you are going to have to do

Re: Study Tips
My recommended study tips would be to watch/rewatch lectures (if you weren't paying attention) with the outlines provided by Lavelle.
Tackle each question by yourself first with the prior knowledge you have from lecture.
Try again a second time by reading relevant texts from the textbook and watching related youtube videos, and then look at the answers if they are provided.
Do this with ALL of the practice problems recommended to you in the outlines.
Hope this helps.

I feel that one of the best things you can do to prepare for the exams beyond simply reviewing the material is doing all the practice problems. Understanding the content on a conceptual level is extremely helpful, but having experience applying it is just as important.

Re: Study Tips
I am planning on going over the textbook problems that I already completed to see which ones I struggled with and redo those. I am also planning on reviewing my notes, reading bits of the textbook with some of the more confusing concepts, and going to some of the review sessions.

I usually reread the textbook and then do some practice problems and try to figure out how to get the right answers on achieve.

Re: Study Tips
I personally really like to start off by compiling a google doc with the questions from the textbook separated by topic/focus. Then I go through them one by one and create my own questions/annotations as I work through the problems. The textbook is great since it gives you the answers so you can check to see if you were right but if you mess up on the process, then it is not that great at helping. In this case, I would reach out to friends to try to figure out which process is correct or you can reach out on chemistry community. I also review the achieve problems but I find the textbook questions most helpful or sometimes the worksheets posted on here can be really great!
Re: Study Tips
I would say doing syllabus textbook problems and going through some achieve problems.

Re: Study Tips
I find the textbook problems to be the most helpful simply because he has assigned all the problems that correlate with each important topic. Additionally, I occasionally watch YouTube videos to better understand the concepts that are confusing.

Re: Study Tips
My go-to is doing the homework and really going through the solutions to understand how the concepts work. Then I'll complete all the outlines so I'm confident in being able to solve problems. For the conceptual questions I'll just go through my lecture notes and the textbook to just get a good understanding of the overall concepts.

I would suggest going over your notes from class or doing textbook practice problems!
Re: Study Tips
I like doing the practice problems and also looking back at homework problems because they have the detailed explanations of what they're doing so it makes it nice and clear

Like everyone is saying, practice problems are the way to go. Something that helps with practice problems is creating a cheat sheet or study guide. I like to rewrite and condense all of my notes so that I have key details and important formulas to look back on while I complete problems.

Re: Study Tips
Practice problems are definitely key! I've heard that he'll sometimes use the ones on the syllabus for tests, and also studying with a friend can be really useful. I like asking my friends to quiz me on my notes or give me example problems to do.

Re: Study Tips
I've been doing practice problems, but I'm unsure of how many I should do. I know in an ideal world I would do every single one on the syllabus, but I got more than just this midterm to worry about. I want to do as many as possible. How many practice problems is everyone shooting for to feel confident for the exam?
Re: Study Tips
I recommend looking at the outline that Lavelle sent in an email and doing most of the syllabus suggested practice problems.

Hi! I definitely plan on studying the concepts and looking at the outline and reviewing the different bullet points he provided us with. I think most importantly is to do the textbook problems, and the best way to review the concepts in my opinion is by reading the textbook.

Hi!
The textbook practice problems are a great way to study! As far as concepts, I like to re-watch parts of the lecture I don't feel as confident about. I also watch additional videos online related to concepts I struggle with. For the midterm, I believe the practice problems are the way to go! Hope this helps!

Prof Lavelle said that he will base some of the problems off the textbook problems from the syllabus so I would start there.

Re: Study Tips
Personally, I plan to do a lot of practice questions from the textbook as well as some old practice tests to make sure I have a solid understanding of the concepts, as well as to write a short summary of the notes if I have time.
