Postby George_Furey_1C » Mon Oct 30, 2023 5:26 pm

Hey guys I'm just wondering how to get to kJ/mol in the second part of question number 12 from the achieve homework. I got the right answer but I'm not sure how to do it still.

From the first part of the question, we know the electron affinity in units eV per atom, from this, we can get the value in units J per atom. 1 eV= 1.602 x 10^-19 Joules, so we would just have to multiply the electron affinity by this value to obtain it in J/atom.

After this, you multiply the value in J/atom by avogadros number (6.02 x 10^23) since it is the number of atoms in 1 mol. Then you just multiplyt he value you get by 10^-3 since 1 KJ= 10^3 J.

I hope this helps!
