To interpret the results of photoelectric experiments the model of light needs to change from a ___ model to ___ model. What are the two missing words?

I thought the blanks should be waves & photon, but it's wrong. Anyone understand this question? What is the answer and why?

You are on the right track, but light only has wavelike and particle-like properties. Photon is the subunit of light, but it's not one of the light properties.
So the answer is wave and particle.

The result of the photoelectric experiment showed that increasing the intensity of the light did not eject electrons if the initial light did not eject electrons, dismissing the idea that light was acting as a wave (in which case increasing intensity would increase amplitude and eject electrons). It changes to a particle model because each particle/photon has to have enough energy to expel an electron. This is where the idea of light as being quantized comes in - thus it's a particle model (more general) rather than a photon model
