increasing frequency/ light intensity

Postby nikitasridhar_1b » Mon Apr 23, 2018 9:51 pm

what does increasing the frequency/ light intensity do? are they the same thing? if not what's the difference?

increasing the frequency changes the wavelength and thus changes the type of light and energy of the light.

increasing the intensity is just increasing the number of photons and essentially the brightness.

what effect does each have on the electrons emitted?

increasing the frequency will allow electrons to be emitted and be emitted with a higher speed.

if the frequency is good enough to eject an electron, then increasing brightness will increase the number of electrons ejected, because there will be more photons and photons act in 1:1 ratio with electrons, but will not change the speed of the ejected electrons.

Changing the frequency changes the wavelength and changing the number of photons changes the light intensity.

Since wavelength=speed of light/ frequency, changing the frequency affects the wavelength.
