Photoelectric Effect Module Question

Postby Faisal Alshamaa - 1L » Thu Apr 26, 2018 11:16 pm

24. In photoelectric experiments, typically what part of the electromagnetic spectrum is the incoming light?

A. Ultraviolet

B. Infrared

C. Visible light

D. Gamma rays

E. None of the above

I'm not sure what the answer is. I thought it was gamma rays since those have the highest energy and would surely eject electrons off of metals but that was wrong? Help :)
Thanks!

I’m almost certain the answer to that would be UV, but I could be wrong. In Dr. Lavelle’s modules he explains it using UV. For sure visible light would not eject electrons.

The incoming light is Ultraviolet according to the modules that Lavelle has posted.

According to the graphics on photoelectric effect the light is ultraviolet.

As light amplitude increases, the kinetic energy of photoelectrons remain constant. So while the amount of electrons ejected increases as amplitude of light increases, typically the light comes from ultraviolet.

Another question from this module:

"Model of light in the photoelectric effect needs to change from a ________ model to a ________ model."
