Photoelectric Effect
When do you use photoelectric effect equation? The equation says (E=hv)-(work function)=Ex. What does Ex mean and stand for?

It might be short for excess energy, since the energy of the photon (e=hv) minus the energy threshold (work function) is the remaining energy that is converted into kinetic energy by the electron.

The excess energy is used to eject electrons so it is converted into kinetic energy. Kinetic energy can be solved by using the formula 1/2mv^2.
