Spectroscopic series

Postby Kelly Zhang 1L » Tue Oct 16, 2018 10:12 am

What are the different Spectroscopic series? Is it the lyman and Balmer series?

I think the lyman and balmer series are the only ones we need to know. Lyman series is when an electron drops back down to n=1 while Balmer is when an electron drops back down to n=2.

I agree with Emily, I think the Balmer series and the Lyman series are the two that we need to know. The Balmer series corresponds with the visible region of the spectrum, and electrons come to rest at energy level n=2. The Lyman series corresponds with the ultraviolet region, and electrons come to rest at n=1.
