Midterm Q3B

"Calculate the ionization energy of a rubidium atom, given that radiation of wavelength 58.4 nm produces electrons with a speed of 2450 km/s. Recall that 1 J = 1 kg.m^2.s^-2"

Can anyone show me how to solve this?

First I used the equation E=hv to find the energy of a photon. Then I used the kinetic energy equation E=(1/2)mv^2 to find the energy of a electron that is released. Then using the concept of conservation of energy I set the initial energy of a photon equal to the sum of the Ionization energy (AKA threshold energy) and Kinetic Energy. I then solved for the ionization energy.
