the amount of energy required to remove an electron from the metal surface. ex) if the energy of the photon is less than the threshold energy, no electrons will be ejected

Threshold energy, also called work function, is the energy needed to remove an electron from a metal surface using a light.

Threshold energy is basically the minimum energy of the incoming photon needed to remove an electron from the metal surface.

Threshold energy is also known as the work function. It represents the amount of energy of light is needed to remove an electron from a metal's surface. This is a specific characteristic of a metal and therefore stays constant for the same material.
