When do I use De Broglie's equation?

Use it when you have mass and velocity and need wavelength.

I agree with the above post but remember that the equation can only be used to calculate the wavelength of an object that has mass. When the object of the question doesn’t have mass, i.e. light, we use other equations such as c=(lambda)v.

As long as you have two of the three variables (mass, velocity, or wavelength), you can use De Broglie's Equation to solve for the remaining one. Usually, questions will ask to solve for the wavelength, but the equation could also be manipulated to solve for m or v as well.

De Broglie's equations applies as long as the particle in question has p, momentum(mv), and has wavelike properties. Depending on the question, you can use the equation to find mass, velocity, or wavelength.
