Photoelectric Effect

Postby ASetlur_1G » Sun Oct 13, 2019 8:03 pm

Why does the photoelectric experiment need to be done under a vacuum?

The photoelectric effect has to be done in a vacuum because it allows all frequencies to reach/travel to the sample.

The photoelectric effect needs to be carried out in a vacuum because it will prevent less collision between the photo electrons and air molecules, which in turn will prevent energy loss.

It will allow the radiation to reach the intended object without collision

The photoelectric experiment has to be done in a vacuum because electrons produced close to the threshold have a relatively low energy. Low energy electrons cannot travel very far in the air before they are defected by collisions and this makes then very difficult to detect without a vacuum.
