Work Function Units

Postby Anisha Chandra 1K » Mon Nov 04, 2019 10:06 am

Sometimes the work function is given with units kJ/mol so you know to convert to J/atom, but what if no units are given? Should you assume you're given the energy to eject a mol or one electron?

I think it's very infrequent for a problem to give you the work function without units. Every problem I've done in the textbook or in a worksheet has been very clear about the units. I would definitely not assume anything if no units are given, but rather I would ask the professor/TA/proctor if this does happen. Was there a specific example of where you saw the work function being provided with units?
