### Calculate the work function, Φ, of this metal.

When a metal was exposed to photons at a frequency of 1.34×1015 s−1, electrons were emitted with a maximum kinetic energy of 4.00×10−19 J.
Calculate the work function, Φ, of this metal.

How should I do this problem?

Calculate the energy of the proton, subtract the kinetic energy of the election from the energy of the proton, then you have the threshold energy :))))

The equation kinetic energy of electron = hv (energy of photon) - work function, so plug in all your numbers and solve for work function!

### Re: Calculate the work function, Φ, of this metal.

Use the equation Ek= hv-Φ.
Plug in -4*10^-19 = (6.63*10^-34)(1.34*10^15) - Φ
Then solve for the work function. You should get 4.88 *10^-19. Hope that helped!
