exciting electrons

Postby 705340227 » Sun Dec 06, 2020 9:28 pm

Does our knowledge about how electrons are excited to a higher energy level by a photon of light play into anything we have learned later this quarter?

Other than the photoelectric effect and atomic spectra, it does not really apply to anything else.

No since the topics that we’re learning now (Acid&Bases, Bonds) deals with transfer of electrons between atoms and not exciting electrons.

The photoelectric effect was focused on electrons emitting from metals, but there could be a correlation with the structure of the metals (with different alloys and so on) which can have an effect on the amount of electron emission. It's a stretch, though.
