Work function?

Postby Claire_Kim_2F » Thu Dec 10, 2020 11:13 am

I was wondering if work function= plancs constant* the threshold frequency? Also what happens if they do not give you the threshold frequency? Is there a way to calculate it?

Hi,

Just like you wrote, you can find the work function if the minimum frequency needed to remove an electron is given in the problem.Likewise, if the problem gives you the threshold energy (work function) needed to remove an electron you can calculate the threshold frequency by using the equation Energy per photon = plank's constant multiplied by frequency.

I hope this helps :)
