1b #27 Solution Manual
I saw on the solution manual that the delta velocity is supposed to be 10m/s but the textbook has its solution with delta v as 5m/s. I'm confused as to why the book is incorrect. If it is asking for the minimum uncertainty in position, wouldn't you take the minimum uncertainty in velocity which is 5m/s? If someone could explain that would be great, thanks.

The problem gives the velocity as 5.00 plus or minus 5.00 m/s, meaning the velocity could be anywhere between 0 m/s and 10 m/s. We find the overall delta v with (10-0)=10 m/s. When it asks for the minimum uncertainty in position, it refers to setting delta v * delta x = h/4pi and solving for delta x. Hope this helps!

You are right when you found the spread of delta v as 10m/s, the textbook in this case is wrong and the right answer is posted on Lavelle's class website under "Solution Manual Errors 7th Edition".
