final exam question
Hello,
I noticed in the practice finals there are a few questions that ask you to derive rate laws using integrals such as 4A on the 2014 final which asks to derive the integrated rate law for a second order reaction with A as the only reactant. However, I thought that I remembered Professor Lavelle stating that we will not have to derive any rate laws in the tests. I may be mistaken on that, but I was just wondering if it will be worth while in review for the final to practice questions like these that derive rate laws

Anything I covered in class can be asked.
I derived several equations and rates law and discussed that I do this to assist with understanding where equations come from, and then how to use them. My focus in doing this is to provide greater understanding. Most exam questions focus on how to use the equations versus how to derive them. But knowing where the equations come from provides a foundation. Hope this helps.

Adding on to rate formulas that can be derived, is there one concrete way of deriving them or do they all have a specific method for each one. For example a zero order reaction should be derived differently from a second order reaction.

They are all derived the same way, as done in class:
Write the differential rate law.
Separate the variables.
Integrate both sides.
Find the y axis intercept.
Write the final linear equation.

Will we be required on the final to know the torsional strain values of each conformation type?

Is there a difference between the projection or diagram, or are they just the same thing, different names?
