Do weekly posts still affect our grades for Chem 14B?

My TA said that we should be posting at least once a week for 1 point each! Both questions and answers count towards the point. :)

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the Chemistry Community and I have a few questions about the layout after reading a tutorial.
1. Is this the right place for me to post my questions for Chem 14B Winter 2017?
2. Is there any indication that the professor or TA has seen my post/ question?
3. How can I add different question to an existing topic?
Thank you

1. That space is usually just to type an answer and not specifically a question but you still get points for posting an answer.
2. Chem_Mod and TA's I believe, have access to the posts everyone makes (so yes they do see it)
3. If you go to Broad Index and then click on the FAQ's link, it will explain how to :).

Hi everyone,
I am also new and a bit confused with this Chemistry Community. Do we need to post a question and reply to a question? or either or is fine?

Why are students not receiving/reading their class messages via MyUCLA?

Please check and update your MyUCLA email as I sent this information out Wednesday:

“As stated in the Syllabus 10 points for weekly online discussion.
One post (question or answer) per week equals 1 point.
Each week ends midnight Sunday.”

Therefore either is fine (question or answer or comment).

Yes of course I see students questions, comments, and jokes.
:-)

Both are fine. If you post or answer a question, you'll get a point for the week!

All posts (question or response) should count as one point!

Do we still receive points for posting on the Jokes forum?

Hi! According to my TA, they count. Even a simple "Yes" or "No" to a question also counts for that 1 point (:

Hi, I'm also new to this chemistry community thing and a forum like this in general. I have so many questions about this posting system.

1. What if you post more than one time per week? Will you get extra points or none?

2. How are you guys navigating through the forum? I'm not really experienced at looking at informations forum like these and I don't know where to find the most recent posts.

3. How can we keep track of our weekly points?

4. Finally, will this post get a point ;-; or will I need to do more?

Well, in answer to your first question, I believe that my TA said that if you post more than one time per week you can get up to 2.5% extra credit this way. I'm terrified that I might be wrong though, so if anyone could confirm or deny this that would be great.

I'm also new to the forum! You just have to click through all the topics and posts are ordered newest from top to bottom. I recommend clicking on topics you're interested in because... there are a lot of posts.

In response to keeping track of weekly points, I think the best way is to look at "your posts." :)

Hi Kimberly, yes, I can confirm as that my TA also said that posting in addition our one post per week will earn us up to 2.5% extra credit.

And Linh, as far as keeping track of our own weekly points, there's a quick and easy way to do that! Just look at the top left of your screen and click Quick links. There should be a drop down option that says Your posts, and you can easily see all the posts that you've participated in.

Does anyone know where I can see my own posts from the past? (Without having to go through all the folders to see if someone replied)

Just click on your name.
Then click on "Search user’s posts " which then lists all of them.

Does anyone know how to post a new topic/question? I've been trying to figure this out and have been answering questions until now. I couldn't locate the "add post" anywhere on the page. I've even looked at the FAQs and the answer there didn't help. Please let me know; thank you! :)

Hi Esther,

Once you have the page open for the forum that'd you'd like to post in, there is a button with red letters that read "New Topic" with an asterisk next to it that allows you to post a new topic/question. This button is located at the top left of the page, just above the Announcements, or at the very bottom left of the page underneath the rest of the posts that have already been posted in that forum.

I hope that helps!

I'm still having trouble on posting a topic. The FAQ didn't help. The"post a new topic" button is not on the bottom left or the top left of a forum page. What might be the problem? I can only post replies to a forum that already exists.

Same situation as above. How does one post a new topic? :/ FAQ says just find the new topic button but the website format shows otherwise.

Please, if anyone has any idea, please reply. Something like this needs to be stickied or have the FAQs updated ;-;

1. click on corresponding topic
2. click on a subtopic
3. create new topic, if it is not there already

I hope this helps!

If you miss a post for a week, is there no way to get the points back? Or can you just double post the next week?

Are the grades for posts calculated as a total(as in a total of ten posts regardless of time)? Or is the date when one posts monitored and taken into account?

I'm fairly certain since each week for posts ends at midnight every Sunday then time does in fact count when checking how many posts one has made.
