Ways Of Changing the Energy of A System

Postby Xin Huang 3E » Thu Jan 19, 2017 7:16 pm

For the second way of changing the energy of a system, "heat or cool the system", the course reader said only the closed system is eligible. What about open system? Why can't we change the energy of an open system by heating or cooling it?

I found the definition of an open system online. It states that, "In science, an open system is a system that can freely exchange matter and energy with its surroundings. An open system may appear to violate conservation laws because it can gain or lose matter and energy."
