What will this midterm consist of? Which chapters and topics? Any tips and ideas on the best study techniques for this class?

The midterm is mainly thermochemistry and electrochemistry I believe. Nothing after electrochemistry should be on it. The practice exams in the back of the course reader really helped me study for 14A with Lavelle, and I have been doing the same thing to prepare for this midterm. It also is helpful to be familiar with the formulas you need to use and to understand their derivations to some extent because this can help you when there is a conceptual question that can be answered using mathematical logic concerning one of the formulas.

The midterm consists of material from the course reader to page 54, which covers thermodynamics and electrochemistry. Doing the homework problems and then doing the practice midterms would be good preparation for the midterm. Good luck!
