Thank you for making this quarter possible during these interesting times. As much as it is difficult for students, I know it must be difficult for professors as well. I appreciate all the hard work you put in to making things work. Thank you.

Dr. Lavelle,
Thank you for taking the time to prepare the many hours of resources throughout this quarter, and I am glad you are the instructor for 14B next quarter. I really appreciate you adding the 10 points and considering all the added difficulties due to the online format. I hope you have a lovely break and I look forward to the little music intros in your 14B lectures!

Professor Lavelle,
Even though we didn't get to have live lectures, I appreciate the effort you put into each class and your attempt to simulate the lecture hall using Bruincast. And let's not forget about the amount of office hours and learning sessions you arranged to fit just about anyone's schedule! I think Chem 14A was the most impactful course of my first quarter as a freshmen. Chem 14A is where I learned to develop my study habits and challenge myself beyond basic memorization. Thank you for EVERYTHING and see you in 14B (even though you can't see us :( ).

Professor Lavelle,
This has been one of the few classes that I have taken at UCLA, even including in-person classes, that has provided the amount of support and extra time going over topics outside of class. All of the resources put in place to help us succeed, including the many review hours and TA/UA sessions are very much appreciated. Thank you for your dedication to your students on this class and I look forward to taking Chem 14B with you next quarter.

Thank you to Dr. Lavelle for providing an easygoing atmosphere for learning chemistry. I'm not really all that enthusiastic about chemistry myself, but I'm glad you didn't make chemistry a taxing experience to learn. I am especially grateful to the music and the puns you would scatter in your presentations.

Thank you Dr. Lavelle for making Chemistry something to look forward to over the past few weeks during my first quarter in college! I feel like the atmosphere that was created made me happy to learn despite not having in-person classes and I definitely feel like we created a community that could ask questions and learn without feeling lost.

Hi Professor Lavelle,

Thank you so much for this quarter! We're lucky to have a professor who's passionate about his course and tries his best to help students understand the material. Especially with everything online, I really appreciate you arranging review sessions and other virtual interactions for communication and help. See you next quarter in Chemistry 14B!

Thank you,

Honestly, I had no experience in chemistry since high school ended and even then the education in high school chemistry was not that great so providing many tutoring hours and step up sessions was very helpful. I am very grateful to have a lot more background and introduction to chemistry now because of you. I really appreciate how many resources you had laid out for us even during a pandemic.

Dear Prof. Lavelle,

Thank you for explaining the concepts so well. You did a great job talking about the links to further knowledge in physiology, pharmacology, medicine, etc. Also, thank you for your support during this time of difficulties.

I wanted to start off by saying this course was frightening for me at the beginning, considering I did not remember much from high school chem. The structure for this class was everything I needed, not only to review, but also to assimilate and appreciate the limitless amount of incoming knowledge from this course. I can say without a doubt, this has been my absolute most challenging class this quarter, but I am glad I was able to learn from one of the best Professors at UCLA. You've made approaching chemistry fun! Never a dull moment! THANK YOU DR. LAVELLE! <3

Hi Dr. Lavelle!! Thank you for the fun chem music and chem jokes at the end of each lecture :)) I really appreciated the fact that you tried to record the lectures in the lecture hall to let us experience what it would be like at school. Thank you so much for being our teacher!!

Dear Dr. Lavelle,
I would like to thank you for a truly amazing quarter and for providing me with an excellent introduction to science at a collegiate level. My high school did not have any AP, IB, or Honors Chem courses, so exploring concepts and phenomena is as great of detail as we did was an utterly fascinating experience. I look forward to taking 14B with you next quarter and plan to pursue a deeper understanding of the world around me and many of the chemical processes upon which I depend in the process, in addition to preparing myself for a career. Please keep up the outstanding work!

Dr. Lavelle,
I wanted to write and say thank you for teaching me about chemistry for the past two quarters. Your videos, or lectures, always started off with music, that made my mornings that much sweeter (#djlavelle). I hope one day we can meet in person on campus, and exchange some chemistry puns!

Before college I had never really taken a real chemistry class, and Lavelle you were my first real chemistry teacher. Although you do not offer the whole 14 series, I really wanted to appreciate you and showing me what a real chemistry class is like. It has been rough and difficult to pick up chemistry at such a fast pace, but you allocated so many resources to us.

Dr. Lavelle,

After 2 quarters of your chemistry classes, I truly want to thank you for teaching me chemistry. I can not believe how much material I have learned in the last 2 quarters and I am very thankful to you for that. You truly do love chemistry and it is always incredible to learn from a professor who cares for their students and has such a deep passion for what they teach. I really do smile at your DJ sessions at the beginning of lecture and like that you want to make learning fun. Thanks for a wonderful quarter!

Thank you Dr. Lavelle for being a great teacher for the last two quarters! I really appreciate how much effort you put into making sure we do well with all the office hours/workshops and chemistry community. I'm thankful for how much I've learned in your class and how much I've gained confidence in solving problems because of you. I'm also thankful for the reminder that you put at the end of each slide to exercise our bodies and minds because it actually encourages me to exercise :) I hope to see you around campus when classes are in person again and I hope you have a great spring break!

Dr. Lavelle,

Thank you for the time and dedication that you put into your lectures. As a freshman, I was nervous because people always told me about how college professors don't care about their students. However, ever since the first day of Chem 14A, you have made it clear that you will be walking us through each and every concept. It made the class much less intimidating and I truly feel as though I have learned a lot.

Thank you Dr. Lavelle and the TAs and UAs! Everyone has been so helpful, and thank you for all of the time you have committed to this class. I will always remember the "exercise your mind and body" at the end of each lecture and the music sessions at the beginning of lectures!

Thank you Dr. Lavelle!

You are such a wonderful teacher and it was truly a joy to be in your class. I wish we could have been in person but despite this challenge, you made Chem 14A and B enjoyable, understandable, and somehow fun! Your clear love of the subject inspires me to work hard and find my passion and I thank you for that.

Dear Dr. Lavelle,

Thank you so much for teaching us for 2 quarters (14a and b) especially during quarantine! Thank you for putting in so much effort recording lecture videos and making them really enjoyable and happy during this time. The transition to online learning has been hard, but you've made chem understandable with a lot of opportunities to ask for help if we needed it!

Thank you so much for a wonderful quarter, Dr. Lavelle! I truly enjoyed being a student in your class. Your passion and dedication for teaching is evident through the numerous resources you have made available to us (UA sessions, TA office hours, Sapling, your discussion sections, etc). Thank you for the lessons you taught us! I hope to visit you in person when we are back on campus.

Dr. Lavelle,

THANK YOU SO MUCH for being such an incredible, encouraging, and enthusiastic professor! Your passion for chemistry absolutely inspired me to enjoy chemistry much more and look forward to learning new concepts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through your lectures, which showcased some amazing tunes (#DJLavelle) and encouraged me to exercise my mind and body (which I definitely needed the reminder of, seeing as most of us are home all day). I am going to miss your class so much :((

Have a great break!!

Dr. Lavelle,
Thank you for making chemistry, a subject that is, personally, hard to grasp into a subject that I do truly enjoy learning about. I love how initially we see all these concepts and equations that we know nothing about, and by the end of the unit you somehow work your magic and it all makes sense. On top of that, you made exams, homework, discussions, lectures, and extra help much more accommodating in the face of the pandemic, and I appreciate that. I hope you have a great break, and I will definitely visit you when in-person classes on campus start again. Take care!

Thank you,
Sahaj

Thank you for 2 amazing quarters in quarantine Dr. Lavelle! I thought I was going to hate chemistry and was dreading the 14 series, but surprisingly, I'm already considering minoring in something that will allow me todo more chemistry in the future. 14A and 14B were the most well-adapted to remote learning and made me sad I couldn't take it in person. I'm also proud to say I've been exercising my mind and body a lot this quarter. Thank you for keeping things positive, for the flexibility of UA sessions, and for the music before lectures (I swear our Spotify's are probably so similar). I hope to say hi when we all come back to campus and say thank you in person.

Have a safe spring break!!
Gabby

I'm taking a break from writing my soc paper to tell you, Dr. Lavelle, that I could not be more appreciative of you. Chem 14A and 14B would not have been the same without your amazing energy and commitment to teaching. Your music was awesome, the UA sessions were a life saver, and the only thing that holds tighter than a chelating ligand is me if I could give you a big hug right now!!! _/\_

Dr. Lavelle,
Thank you so much for all your help this quarter. 14A and 14B have made chemistry even more interesting for me. The UA sessions and chemistry community that you created have all been so helpful, and I've met some amazing people through it. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful professor!

Dr. Lavelle,
Thank you so much for all you do and for helping your students to be successful. For me personally, I came in to 14A last quarter not knowing really how to study independently, especially for challenging classes such as yours. Your countless resources that you provide your students with, Chemistry community included, helped me to realize which study methods work best for me (and arguably more importantly which ones don't). I wish you all the best in teaching your future classes. As always, Go Bruins.

Thank you Dr. Lavelle for creating such an organized course with so many ways to get help! Whenever I didn't understand a concept, I knew that there were so many places for me to go to. I also loved the music at the start of the lectures.

Thank you so much, Dr. Lavelle!
These past two quarters have been really enjoyable with you. Not every professor takes the time out of their lesson to play music just because students asked, and you have been so accomodating and understanding, I don't think any student could have asked for more. I am really going to miss these classes, but I'm glad you get to provide such a welcoming experience to incoming students because they (meaning me) really need professors like you!

Dr. Lavelle,

Thank you for everything you've done for us this quarter. I didn't really have a chemistry background so I really appreciated how you started from the foundations! You always had really good examples to explain the concepts, and I feel like I really had a good conceptual as well as a mathematical understanding of the course. I also really appreciated your emphasis on peer learning! I feel like I really learned a lot the past two quarters and that I have a really strong understanding for my future chemistry courses. Cheers!

Dear Dr. Lavelle, all the TA's, UA's, and staff who helped make online school possible,

Thank you for all of your hard work! With everything going on during this pandemic, I was anxious about being unable to learn or do well in the course. However, you all went above and beyond during these last two quarters and I cannot thank you enough. Although I still found the chemistry courses challenging, having the support of the educators and my peers helped me immensely (especially those bright and uplifting messages you included in your lectures Dr. Lavelle)! Again, thank you all. I hope everybody stays safe and healthy in the meantime. Have a wonderful day!

Thank you so much, Dr. Lavelle!
I really appreciated how you cared for us students throughout the past few months in this difficult time. I'm grateful for how you helped us (especially first-years) feel connected to campus by recording all of your lectures in the lecture hall because I know that requires a lot of extra work. For the past two quarters, I have enjoyed learning chemistry and especially felt happier whenever you would spread positivity to us students, whether it was through dancing to music, telling chemistry-related jokes, or sharing your inspirational words with us. I'm also so thankful for the UA program you have established. It was so incredibly valuable in helping me strengthen my understanding of the material, and more importantly, in creating a community amongst us students in this time of remote learning. In those sessions, we all got to know each other better throughout the past few months, and we had a lot of fun every week! This was the one class where it felt like such an uplifting, positive, and comfortable learning environment, where all of us students were helping each other and learning together. Special shoutout to the UAs Matthew and Kate, I attended almost all of your sessions. You both were so helpful and genuinely kind to us. I really appreciate all that you did for us!
I will truly miss this class. Thank you for everything, Dr. Lavelle!

Dear Dr. Lavelle,

Thank you so much for all the hard work and resources you put in to help us succeed these past two quarters, especially in this virtual environment! While it certainly was difficult, the opportunities that you, the TA's, and the UA's provided were invaluable and made it so much easier to learn and have a sense of community during these times. I really enjoyed this class and have a greater appreciation for chemistry than before :D. Have a wonderful break!

Best,
Andrew

Thank you for everything! So glad you were my professor that taught me the basis of chemistry! I really feel like I'm leaving this class with a great understanding of the material. Thanks for making a giant effort to make the class as "normal" as possible and providing us with many outside the lecture study options. Have a wonderful spring break!!
