Midterm Material

Postby ELu 1J » Thu Jan 30, 2020 9:49 pm

What material is going to be covered for the midterm? Are there usually review sessions beforehand that are taught by Dr. Lavelle or the TAs?

An UA told me that we were going to cover material up to Outline 4. There are usually a bunch of review sessions that are held by BOTH lavelle and the UA's so definitely be on the lookout for those!

I would assume chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, thermochemistry and possibly some thermodynamics as well, based on how far we get in lecture before the midterm. Based on last quarter in Chem 14A, there are likely to be plenty of review sessions for different topics and a big review session based on a practice test provided by the TAs and LAs, though this is not guaranteed.

The material will probably cover everything we have learned and will learn up to thermodynamics(?) Also, there were a ton of review sessions last quarter before the midterm & final led by TA's and UA's that were super helpful so I believe they will be happening this quarter as well!

It’s everything up to and including thermodynamics. There are review sessions posted on his website.

There is a review sheet and some sessions provided by the UAs, which is super useful for midterms and finals.

One thing I'd like to point out is the very wonderful practice sheet/problem sets that UA Lyndon always makes before a midterm/final. His review sheet contained almost every type of problem you might encounter in the test, and it definitely helped me out very much last quarter; if you go to his review session with Matthew on 2/10 they'll go over the problems step by step. I don't think he's posted them yet, but be on the lookout for that! Best of luck studying :>

Hi there,

You can find all of the information regarding the midterm here: https://lavelle.chem.ucla.edu/wp-conten ... ns_14B.pdf
If you have any trouble with the link, it's located under "Midterm Exam: Review Sessions and Exam Venues" on the 14B class website. I hope this helps! :)

Dr. Lavelle posted a document on his website with all information regarding the midterm! The midterm will cover through outline 4 except any topics from chapter 5.

There are always review sessions held the week before either by TA's or UA's and the final lecture before the midterm, Lavelle does past exam questions. The midterm will cover Chemical Equilibrium, Acids and Bases, Thermochemistry, and Thermodynamics( finishing Chapter 4, not Chapter 5).

The midterm covers Equilibrium, Acids and Bases, Thermochemistry, and the first part of Thermodynamics up to deltaG.
