Lecture Format
I was wondering whether we will have to attend any live lectures, or are they all recorded and uploaded? Are the discussion sections the only mandatory attendance?
This morning, I was trying to find a zoom link to the lecture with no success until I found an uploaded video in the media tab in ccle.
On myucla, the description says lectures are online-recorded (not asynchronous) so I'm a bit confused.

Re: Lecture Format
In Chem 14A, the lectures would be posted on ccle under media resources each lecture day. They were recorded and uploaded (no live lectures). I believe discussion section attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended. Attendance does not seem to affect our grade. I would assume the same format for 14B.

Re: Lecture Format
The lectures are under media resources on CCLE. Though the lecture on the Study List says Online-Recorded, it is actually asynchronous. The lecture is usually available when the first lecture starts (11 a.m. PST) I hope this helped!

Re: Lecture Format
For Chem14A, all the lectures were posted under media resources on CCLE. The only live zooms we had with Dr. Lavelle were his office hours and final exam review session.

Re: Lecture Format
Yes, the lecture format is the same as CHEM 14A. It is unrealistic for Dr. Lavelle to hold zoom lectures with more than 300 people in each lecture.

Re: Lecture Format
Lectures will be posted at 11 am on lecture days, regardless of what lecture you're in! Allows for a lot of flexibility in scheduling :^)

Re: Lecture Format
Lectures are always recorded and uploaded to CCLE, but there are office hours that are optional.

Re: Lecture Format
all lectures are asynchronous, and discussions are live (so they are unfortunately are not recorded) but not mandatory. they are pretty helpful though in going over practice problems from the homework! hope this helps!

Re: Lecture Format
Dr. Lavelle prerecords his lectures in one of the lecture halls, it gives a bit closer resemblance to in-person teaching. I also think he does it so students can pause at any time to take notes, it also prevents "zoom bombings". :)

Re: Lecture Format
the lectures are all recorded, and I think they will be uploaded at 11 for every class, and the discussions aren't mandatory I think since participation comes from chemistry community!

Re: Lecture Format
The lectures are recorded and posted under Media Links on the day of class (MWF). I think Prof Lavelle did not want us to schedule any classes during his lecture because we have midterms during lecture time.

Re: Lecture Format
Last quarter, all the lectures were pre-recorded and uploaded to CCLE under the media tab, and discussions are not mandatory

Re: Lecture Format
Pretty sure all general lectures are pre-recorded and uploaded under the media resources section of the CCLE

Re: Lecture Format
I wonder what the logistics of having midterms/tests during scheduled lecture times will be like.

Re: Lecture Format
Lavelle lectures are pre-recorded and posted on their assigned date (every other day of the week). You must keep yourself accountable to watch these.
Discussion sections are optional, but they are helpful as you can ask any question you need.
Sapling is mandatory homework you are graded on. Hope this helps!

Re: Lecture Format
The lectures are recorded and get released under the media tab in CCLE at the time of your class. There are also discussions which he calls lectures that are basically office hours for homework questions. Those are live on zoom.

Re: Lecture Format
I think it follows the same format as 14A where the lectures were recorded and posted under the media tab on CCLE. I assume we would be informed via email if anything was synchronous!
