Re: Midterm 1
I was wondering the same thing! I am assuming that Dr. Lavelle may include some thermochemistry on midterm 1 because we start that next week, but that is just a guess.

Re: Midterm 1
It seems that we are finishing outline 2 this week since he said we will be moving on from acids and bases so my guess is that outline 3 would be included too but I am not sure. Hopefully we will find out soon!

Re: Midterm 1
Last quarter, he sent an email before the midterm that told us which outlines were going to be on the test, so he will probably let us know soon. But I think parts of outline three might be included too since he said that we already finished outline 2

Re: Midterm 1
Since the Midterm is Week 4, Friday Jan 29 in class, I am assuming it will cover parts of outline 3 as well. I am sure Professor will send out an email closer to the date.

Re: Midterm 1
Hi! I feel like this was mentioned somewhere, but as I cannot find it I'm sure we'll get an email closer to time. For now, my guess would be that perhaps some of outline 3 will be included. I believe we only have 4 more lectures (since Monday is a holiday, and the Friday of the test will have no lecture), so it'll depend on how far we get by then.

Re: Midterm 1
Part of unit 3, which is on thermochemistry will likely be on the first midterm since we still have two weeks until the midterm. I think he will probably talk more about what will be on the midterm in lecture next week or send out an email when we get closer to the date.
Re: Midterm 1
I believe Dr. Lavelle might add some stuff from outline three as that will be covered in Week 3 Material.

Re: Midterm 1
Since we're starting outline 3 in week 3 there will probably be content from there tested as well.

Re: Midterm 1
Judging off of our midterms from last quarter, I think it is possible that specific sections of outline 3 might be tested, but I'm sure we'll be told in advance.

Maybe it will be like last quarter, where, during one of his lectures, he'll inform us about where the cutoff is.

A lot of the questions are quite similar to the tougher textbook problems so definitely brush up on those!

Re: Midterm 1
Professor Lavelle will probably send us an email soon about Midterm 1. This is just my guess but I think all of Outline 3 might not be on the exam because I remember last quarter for Chem14A, we were tested on parts of an outline that we didn't finish before the Midterm 1 date.

Re: Midterm 1
Like the others have said above, I also agree that outline 3 will be partially tested. I definitely think we will not be tested on outline 4.

Re: Midterm 1
Since the first midterm in January 29th, I would assume outlines 1, 2 and 3 will be tested. Lavelle's midterms (at least from last quarter 14A) typically most resemble the textbook problems. I would highly recommend doing all of the included textbook exercises on the outlines to study for the midterm!

Re: Midterm 1
I think it covers content from weeks 1 through 3, and so would include material from outlines 1,2 and - as others have mentioned - some from 3 (depending on where we finish by then).

Pretty sure Lavelle will send out an email to clarify what we should focus on when reviewing (bless his soul).

Re: Midterm 1
On the syllabus it says that the midterm is on a Friday during class time. Is this true because for 14A last quarter, it was during our respective discussion sections?

Hi! Yes this is true. Midterms this quarter will be held during our class lecture time on Friday.

Definitely outlines 1, 2, and probably part of 3 will be tested. Around a week prior to the exam he usually sends an email with clear cutoffs on what will be tested (this will probably be available as an announcement on his website too).
