New account for Chem 14B?
Hello! I was just wondering if students who took Chem 14A with Professor Lavelle last quarter could continue to use the same account to post in chemistry community for Chem 14B this quarter, or if we have to make a new account?

Re: New account for Chem 14B?
Students automatically have the same Chemistry Community account as login is linked to your UID which never changes.
If you took Chem 14A and 14B with me:
1. Students automatically have the same Chemistry Community account as login is linked to your UID which never changes.
2. Update your profile name to your new (Chem 14B) discussion section.
3. Chemistry Community adds all posts as you have the same UID (which never changes).
Subtract your Chem 14A posts from your total to determine number of Chem 14B posts.

I had the same question, I was unsure if we had to change our account but I believe it stays the same.

It stays the same, I would recommend updating your profile name to your new discussion section. It would make things a lot easier for your TA.

Hi! I made a few posts prior to changing my username to my new Chem 14B dicussion and was wondering if they carried over after I changed my username or if I would have to repost them?

You can see your posts by clicking on your username.
Then click on "Search user’s posts".
All your posts are then listed.

Re: New account for Chem 14B?
Hi! I am certain that we keep the same account, since it is already linked to our UID. All I would advise is to update your name so that it has your discussion section number, which will make it easier for your TA to find your posts.

Re: New account for Chem 14B?
Yes, you keep the same login and password and same account. The only thing different is you follow the instructions on Dr. Lavelle's website for changing your username to match the discussion that you are in. Your posts do carry over when you switch your name.

Yes you should use the same account! It will help to just change your username to your name and discussion section under the "Register Alias" section.

at the end of the day, your first account is linked with your UID so at the end it will be calculated by your UID

Re: New account for Chem 14B?
You should update your chemistry community account so that your discussion section will be updated but you should be fine because your UID is linked o your account.

I believe all you have to do is update your discussion section to your current one. Since your account already has your name and UID nothing else needs to be changed :)

Your UID can't change, so you won't be able to make a new account. Changing your username to reflect your new discussion section should be good enough.

I am pretty confident that it stays the same, although I would recommend that you update your profile username to match 14B.

My TA said a new account is not necessary. However, I think updating the discussion session in your name would be helpful.

To change your account name you click in the top left next to where it says notifications and then click on user control panel. It should then allow you to change your username.

You can also change your account name by clicking "register alias and password" again. Then you just type in the name you want and your password then submit.

Re: New account for Chem 14B?
Hi, I did not take chem 14A with professor Lavelle however I did see in his most recent email that you can keep the same account but I believe just change your alias so your TA is able to find your posts better.
Re: New account for Chem 14B?
I was just able to do this by scrolling all the way to the top of the chemistry community website and next to the FAQ there is a link to register. However, this is my first time registering, so I am not sure where I can add my name yet.

Re: New account for Chem 14B?
If you took chemistry with Lavelle before, the information will stay the same! I would just suggest changing your username to include your discussion section.

All the information should be the same, just change your username to your new discussion.

Re: New account for Chem 14B?
How many times do we have to post or reply on here to get full points?
Re: New account for Chem 14B?
Hello! I have a questions regarding how points work when responding, asking, or commenting a post. I know that it is suggested that we make three posts every week to get full point for that specific week, however if I to make more than three post, would I get extra credit or would it just be transferred for next week's points? Thank you! Have a great day!
Re: New account for Chem 14B?
The account is linked to your UID so it should stay the same. Hope this helps

Re: New account for Chem 14B?
If we missed points could we make it up the next week or are you only limited to 3 points?
Re: New account for Chem 14B?
Your account should be linked to your UID, which should be the same from 14A.

You need to go to settings and change your profile name from your UID to discussion and name! And they should all link

Re: New account for Chem 14B?
Essentially, you just shift over the information that you used before while replying to posts on a new forum labelled 14b.
