The Milky Way

does anyone know why our galaxy was named "the milky way?"

One reason that it is thought to be called "The Milky Way" is because there is Greek myth about the goddess Hera who sprayed milk across the sky, another reason is because it appears as a milky band of light in the sky when you see it in a really dark area.

It gets its name from a Greek myth about the goddess Hera who sprayed milk across the sky. It has different names in different parts of the world.

It's called the Milky Way because the Greek Goddess Hera supposedly sprayed milk across the sky.
