Re: Midterm 1
All exam dates and times were announced before enrollment and again during enrollment.
They were announced in multiple places at multiple times.

Re: Midterm 1
I am guessing that is ucla decides to further extend remote learning the midterm will be online, but if we are back to in-person learning, then it would be up to the professor on whether to make the midterm online or in person.

as of today, the university said in-person instruction will continue on jan 31 so that'll probably mean our midterm feb 2 will be in person.

The first midterm is on Feb 2nd. I'm sure location will be announced a few days prior to the exam date.

Def will be in person, but the locations still need to be released. They probably will be released week 4 as we get closer to the actual date. As for the locations they will probably be half in cs50 and the other half somewhere else like Haines, similar to 14a.

Dr. Lavelle will likely assign us rooms to take our exam and he will post that info on his website when it's figured out. Hope this helps!

Likely in person, but I'm sure we'll get confirmation next week.

Re: Midterm 1
My other professors said that if we switch to in=person as planned, the midterms will be in person even though we've been online for a few weeks.

Re: Midterm 1
Midterm 1 will be on feb 2. Last quarter for chem 14A, he gave students the option to take the final either online or in person, regardless if you were enrolled in his online lecture or not. I’m assuming he would do the same for this quarter in regards to lecture and exam taking, or at least I would hope so.

Re: Midterm 1
In regards to having the option to take either the online or in-person test in Chem 14A, I believe that was only offered to students with a reason unable to take the test in-person. I believe that unless you had a doctor's note, you had to take the test in-person.

Re: Midterm 1
Our first midterm will be on Wednesday, February 2nd. It will be proctored via zoom and I am under the impression that we will take the midterm for whatever time coincides with your enrolled lecture time. For example, I am enrolled in Lecture 2 and will likely have to take the exam between 1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m., when lecture usually takes place.

Re: Midterm 1
Is the exam during lecture time or 6-7 because the email he sent out still says 6-7 and does not say anything about it being during lecture time.

This is incorrect.
Please see Exam Schedule at: https://lavelle.chem.ucla.edu/wp-conten ... hedule.pdf
Midterm 1 is Wednesday, February 2, from 6 to 7 pm for all Chem 14B classes.

Yeah, there is a formula/constants and equations sheet and periodic table available on Dr. Lavelle's website. We can use both on exams.

Questions will either be worth 4 or 8 points. We can earn partial credit for the 8 point problems, but not for the 4 point problems.

The sections that are going to be covered are the first 3 outlines we've done, chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, and thermochemistry.
Re: Midterm 1
Does anyone know about how many questions are on the exam? I was thinking it is similar to 14A but i think we have 10 extra minutes so maybe there are more questions?

Re: Midterm 1
Hi,
midterm #1 is going to take place via zoom
we will need two devices (phone/tablet/laptop) just anything to show your entire workspace during the midterm (6-7pm this coming Wednesday 2/2/22) while your TA proctors
If you have accommodations, then you might be given a different link or something but definitely your TA should be contacting you for any further info.
BTW, it's going to be on groundhog day hehe :)
good luck!!!!

I believe he recently sent out an email with the formula and constant sheet on it for this midterm. Along with a periodic table if you need it!
