Stable products

Postby 405735471 » Sun Feb 12, 2023 3:13 pm

Why is it that if you have a larger equilibrium constant, the more stable the product?

The magnitude of the equilibrium constant does not relate to the stability of the products, but rather the amount/concentration. The bigger the equilibrium constant, the more product is made because the concentration of the product is in the numerator of the equation.

A larger equilibrium constant means the reaction favors products. This ties into products being more stable because the components of a reaction naturally favor being in their most stable state. Thus, since products are favored, they're more stable.

The bigger the equilibrium constant, the more product will be made since the concentration of the product is in the numerator.

If we had a larger equilibrium constant then that would mean that the reaction will favor the products. which means that it would be stable because they will favor the reaction that causes the stable state.

More equilibrium constants the more the creation of products are favored within the system.
