If you converted lets say milliliters into Liters in order to solve a problem and then left the answer in Liters will you get marked down? Should you always convert it back to the original unit?

It should be fine to leave the answer in either unit as long as you label it correctly and use the right number of sig figs. You can leave the answer as, say, either 3.0 L or 3.0 x 10^3 mL.

In general it is fine to leave your answers in terms of liters if the problem is given in milliliters. When dealing with lab calculations though, it is most convenient to convert to milliliters if the answer results in a very small quantity of liters.
