Sig Figs

Postby Raven_Gassis_2L » Thu Oct 06, 2016 3:00 pm

It has been quite awhile since high school chemistry and I was wondering if someone could give me a quick run down of sig figs. I more or less understand them but sometimes the book does random intermediate rounding for some problems and not for others and someone mentioned that sig figs are different for addition and multiplication. Just need a quick refresher and it seems to be a concept that is assumed we just know... but I don't.

If you look in the course reader, pages 35-36 tell us everything we need to know about sig figs. Also, I've noticed that sometimes our solution manual doesn't give us consistent sig fig values, but those are errors.
