Conservation of Energy Question

Postby Bijan Mehdizadeh 1B » Mon Feb 18, 2019 4:15 pm

I remember one of my family members asking me this question, but I forgot the answer and am quite curious to what it may be. The question was, if you have a spring, and you compress it, and then put a rubber band over it to keep it compressed, and then you throw it into the fire, and it disintegrates, what happens to the stored energy inside the spring?

The spring would release as the rubber band melts away I believe and the spring would release all its potential energy there. Not sure tho.
