What are Workshops?

Postby Jose Robles 1D » Sun Feb 16, 2020 10:43 pm

Can someone explain to me what the workshops are and how they differ from the step-up sessions?

my understanding is that step-up is in detail teaching of the topic, while workshop is more about going over questions that students may have (not as step by step/in depth)

I believe workshops are an opportunity for students to get more practice via problems (they understand a majority of the material) whereas step-up sessions involves step by step guidance as to how to approach problems.

I view Workshops as a time for students who already understand the material to get more practice and Step-Up sessions as being for students who may need clarification on class material/step-by-step help on how to approach problems!

Are step up sessions worth the time? I need help but I don’t have a lot of free time to go to a session that might just be the exact thing from class.

I go to both workshops and step ups and it's kind of the same. You just work through practice problems in both. In some workshops though worksheets are given out which are really helpful.

Hi, in my experience step up is usually going over hw problems. Workshops sometimes have worksheets

I think both workshops and step up sessions go over the concepts but step ups might break down the concepts more and tend to go over more homework problems. Workshops sometimes have worksheets which are helpful.

I think you just do practice problems in them

Workshops are review sessions tailored for those who understand material and would like more practice. Step up sessions are made for students who need help doing problems since the UA's go slowly and step by step.

Step-up sessions are more like a step by step explanation of topics learned in class, specifically designed to essentially relearn material. Workshops, however are more focused on extra practice for topics.
